Peak utilizes and deploys many safety practices and exercises a variety of safety precautions. Public awarenss is a critical safety component, as property owners and the public adjacent to our pipeline right-of-way are also considered to be a very important part of our pipeline's safety program. By sharing information with property owners, businesses, excavators, emergency responders, public officials, and other interested parties, Peak aims to raise awareness to help the public better understand how they can contribute toward pipeline safety. Eyes and ears along our pipeline right-of-way play a vital role in identifying potential problems, such as unauthorized construction activities, excavation and soil erosion.
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) require the use of signs that indicate the location of underground pipelines. Peak's pipeline markers identify the general location of the line (line is not exactly under all markers for safety reasons), the product carried, and Peak's company name and contact information in case of emergency.
Pipeline markers are located at any road, railroad or navigable waterway crossing. They are also posted at set intervals on the right-of-way. It is a federal crime to damage or remove a pipeline marker.
